Why Cannot I Configure the GRE Protocol for a Tunnel Interface When Configuring a GRE Tunnel?

Why Cannot I Configure the GRE Protocol for a Tunnel Interface When Configuring a GRE Tunnel?

Possible Causes

If the GRE protocol cannot be configured for a tunnel interface when you configure a GRE tunnel, the command for accessing the tunnel interface may be incorrect.

Troubleshooting Procedure

Run the interface tunnel interface-number command to create a tunnel interface. In the command, interface-number specifies the number of the tunnel interface, in the format "slot ID/card ID/port number".

The following is an example procedure for creating a tunnel interface.
