Replacing a Card

Replacing a Card

  • Replacing a card interrupts services. Therefore, save the configurations before replacing the card.
  • To avoid damages to the card, do not touch the electronic components on the card during the replacement.
  • Unused cards or parts must be placed in ESD bags. Do not pack cards with common foam materials, plastic bags, paper bags, or other packing materials without the ESD prevention function.
  • Vacant slots in the router must be covered with filler panels.

The methods for replacing SIC, WSIC, XSIC, and SRU cards on routers are the same. The following procedure replaces a SIC card on an AR2240 router.

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • ESD wrist strap
  • ESD bag

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap. Ensure that the ESD wrist strap is grounded and in a close contact with your wrist.
  2. Remove cables from the card to be replaced, and record mappings between cables and interfaces on the card to ensure correct cable connections on the new card.
  3. Remove the old card.
    1. Loosen the captive screws on both sides of the card and rotate the ejector levers outward.
    2. Gently pull the card out of the slot along the guide rails.

  4. Install a new card.

    • For details on how to install a card in an AR2240, AR2240C, AR3260, or AR3670 router, see Installing Cards in the Hardware Installation Guide.

  5. Connect cables to the new card according to the recorded cable connections on the old card.

Follow-up Procedure

After replacing the card, collect all tools. If the replaced card is faulty, fill in the Appendix G Fault Tag in the Hardware Installation Guide and send the faulty module with the Repair Transmission Sheet to the equipment supplier or the specified repair service provider.
