OSPF Route Selection Rules

OSPF Route Selection Rules

OSPF supports multi-process. Multiple OSPF processes can run on the same router, and they are independent of each other. Route selection between multiple OSPF processes follows the following rules:
  1. A router first compares the protocol preferences of two processes and selects the route belonging to the process with a higher protocol preference as the optimal route.

  2. If the two processes have the same protocol preference, the router compares the cost values of two routes belonging to the two processes respectively and selects the route with a smaller cost value as the optimal route.

For details about how to change the OSPF cost value, see How to Change the OSPF Cost Value.
