How Do I Configure an E1-F Interface to Work in Unframed Mode?

Procedure

To configure an E1-F interface to work in unframed mode, perform the following operations on the serial interface corresponding to the E1-F interface:

More Information

An E1-F interface works in unframed or framed mode. By default, an E1-F interface works in framed mode. The differences between the two modes are as follows:
  • Unframed mode: An E1-F interface in unframed mode works at the rate of 2048 kbit/s without timeslot division. Similar to a synchronous serial interface, the E1-F interface supports the Internet Protocol (IP) and data link layer protocols such as the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC), and Frame Relay (FR).
  • Framed mode: The transmission line of an E1-F interface in framed mode is divided into 32 timeslots that are numbered 0 through 31. Timeslot 0 transmits synchronization signals. The other timeslots can be randomly bundled into a channel.
To use an E1 leased line (with the 2 Mbit/s bandwidth) to transmit data, configure an E1-F interface to work in unframed mode. To use a low-rate (1 Mbit/s or 512 kbit/s) E1 line to transmit data, configure an E1-F interface to work in framed mode. By default, an E1-F interface works in framed mode.
To configure an E1-F interface in unframed mode to work in framed mode, perform the following operations:
