Example for Limiting the Rate of Packets Based on Internal IP Addresses

Example for Limiting the Rate of Packets Based on Internal IP Addresses

Specifications

This example applies to all versions and AR routers.

Networking Requirements

The router is deployed at the egress of an enterprise network, as shown in Figure 2-43. Enterprise users are located on two network segments and connect to the Internet through the router.

The bandwidth of enterprise users with different IP addresses needs to be limited. The rate limit of users on network segment 192.168.10.0 is 64 kbit/s, and users on network segment 192.168.20.0 is 128 kbit/s.

Traffic policing is configured on the router to limit packets from specified internal IP addresses.

Procedure

  1. Choose QoS > Interface Rate Limit. The Interface Rate Limit page is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-44.

  2. Create interface rate limit.

Click Create in Interface Rate Limit List. On the Create Interface Rate Limit page, as shown in Figure 2-45, configure rate limiting for users on network segment 192.168.10.0. Set Start source IP to 192.168.10.2, End source IP to 192.168.10.254, and CIR (kbit/s) to 64. Set other parameters and click OK.

You can use the same method to configure rate limiting for users on network segment 192.168.20.0. Set Start source IP to 192.168.20.2, End source IP to 192.168.20.254, and CIR (kbit/s) to 128. Set other parameters and click OK.

  3. Verify the configuration.

After the preceding configuration is complete, the Interface Rate Limit List page is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-46, you can check the configuration.
