Example for Configuring Internet Access Using PPPoE

Example for Configuring Internet Access Using PPPoE

This example applies to all AR routers that support LAN interface of V200R003C00 and later versions.

Networking Requirements

As shown in Figure 2-1, the router functions as the DHCP Server to dynamically assign IP addresses to clients on the network segment As a PPPoE Client, the router is authenticated by the PPPoE Server and obtains an IP address to meet the Internet access requirement. The IP address of VLANIF 1 is Eth1/0/0 connects to a remote carrier-side interface with the IP address

  1. Select the access type.

    1. Choose Configuration Wizard > Internet Access Wizard, as shown in Figure 2-2.

    2. Select an Internet access interface, as shown in Figure 2-3.

      Figure 2-3  Select Access Type

    3. Click Next.

  2. Set access parameters.

    1. Set the parameters and enter the PPP dial-up user name and password, as shown in Figure 2-4.

    2. Click Next.

  3. Configure the LAN.

    1. Set the parameters, as shown in Figure 2-5.

      Figure 2-5  Configure LAN

On the Internet Access Wizard page, the egress gateway address configured for DHCP Clients is the IP address of VLANIF 1.

    2. Click Next.

  4. Confirm the settings.

    1. You can view Internet access settings, as shown in Figure 2-6. To save the current settings, click Save Current Configuration.

    2. Click Finish.

  5. Delete interfaces from a VLAN.

Because all interfaces join VLAN 1 by default, broadcast storms may occur if unknown unicast, multicast, or broadcast packets exist in VLAN 1. To prevent loops, delete interfaces that do not need to be added to VLAN 1 from VLAN 1.

    1. Choose LAN Access > LAN > VLAN Interface. The VLAN Interface page is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-7.

      Figure 2-7  VLAN Interface

    2. In the VLAN Interface List area, select an interface to be added to a VLAN, and click next to the interface.

    3. In the Modify VLAN Interface dialog box that is displayed, select an interface to be deleted from a VLAN in the Selected Interface list, and click . The selected interface will be moved to the Available Interface list.

    4. To add an interface to a VLAN, select the interface in the Available Interface list, and click . In the Select Addition Mode dialog box that is displayed, set Addition mode, and click OK. The selected interface will be moved to the Selected Interface list.

    5. Click OK. The interfaces in the Selected Interface list will be added to the VLAN.

  6. Verify the configuration.

After the configuration is complete, internal users can access the Internet through the router.

Configuration Notes

If you configure Internet access on the Internet Access Wizard page, the router's interface connecting to internal users must be VLANIF 1.

If you specify the DNS Server, you need to obtain the DNS Server's IP address from the carrier.
