Example for Configuring Static NAT to Implement the Conversion Between Private and Public IP Addresses

Applicability

This example applies to all AR routers of all versions.

Networking Requirements

As shown in Figure 2-35, a host user in an enterprise uses the private IP address 192.168.1.2/24 and wants to use the fixed public IP address 1.1.1.3/24. You can configure static NAT on the router to implement the conversion between private and public IP addresses so that internal users can access the Internet. The IP addresses of GE0/0/1 and GE0/0/2 are 192.168.1.1/24 and 1.1.1.2/24, respectively. GE0/0/2 connects to a remote carrier-side interface with the IP address 1.1.1.1/24.

Procedure

  1. Configure IP addresses for interfaces.
    1. Log in to the web platform and choose WAN Access > Ethernet Interface. The Ethernet Interface page is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-36.

    2. In the Ethernet Interface List area, click next to GigabitEthernet0/0/1 and configure an IP address for the interface, as shown in Figure 2-37.

    3. Click OK.

      Configure the IP address 1.1.1.2 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0 for GE0/0/2 in the same way.

  2. Configure static NAT to implement the conversion between private and public IP addresses.
    1. Choose IP Service > NAT > Static NAT. The Static NAT page is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-38.

    2. Click Create, and configure NAT in the Create Static NAT dialog box that is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-39.

    3. Click OK.
  3. Configure a default route to ensure that the outbound interface has a reachable route to the remote interface.
    1. Choose IP Service > Route > Static Route Configuration. The Static Route Configuration page is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-40.

    2. In the IPv4 Static Route Configuration Table area, click Create, and configure a default route in the Create IPv4 Static Route Service dialog box that is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-41.

    3. Click OK.
  4. Verify the configuration.

    # After the configuration is complete, a configuration list is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-42. Internal users can access the Internet.
