Installing the Rear Hard Disk Backplane

Install a rear hard disk backplane to replace the original one.

Installing a Rear Hard Disk Backplane for 12 Disks

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap. For details, see Safety Instructions.
  2. Remove the rear hard disk backplane to be replaced. For details, see Removing the Rear Hard Disk Backplane.
  3. Take the spare rear hard disk backplane out of its ESD bag.
  4. Hook the rear hard disk backplane, and move it downward until its latch automatically locks. See Figure 7-114.

  5. Connect cables to the rear hard disk backplane. For details, see Internal Cabling.
  6. Install the mainboard frame and connect all cables to the mainboard. For details, see Internal Cabling.
  7. Install all hard disks in the rear hard disk backplane.
  8. Connect all internal cables. For details, see Internal Cabling.
  9. Install the fan modules. For details, see Installing a Fan Module.
  10. Install the air duct. For details, see Installing the Air Duct.
  11. Install the chassis cover. For details, see Installing the Chassis Cover.
  12. Install the 5288 V3. For details, see Installing the Server.
  13. Connect all internal cables such as power and network cables. For details, see Connecting External Cables.
  14. Power on the 5288 V3. For details, see Powering On the Server.

Installing a Rear Hard Disk Backplane for Two Disks

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap. For details, see Safety Instructions.
  2. Remove the rear hard disk backplane to be replaced. For details, see Removing the Rear Hard Disk Backplane.
  3. Take the spare rear hard disk backplane out of its ESD bag.
  4. Install the rear hard disk backplane in the rear hard disk module in the arrow direction, and tighten the screw on the hard disk backplane. See Figure 7-115.

  5. Install all hard disks in the rear hard disk backplane.
  6. Install the rear hard disk module in the 5288 V3 chassis, and tighten the screws on the module. See Figure 7-116.

  7. Connect cables to the rear hard disk backplane. For details, see Internal Cabling.
  8. Install the fan modules. For details, see Installing a Fan Module.
  9. Install the air duct. For details, see Installing the Air Duct.
