Performing the Upgrade

Performing the Upgrade

Scenarios

Upgrade the HMM.

NOTE:
  • The system user name and password remain unchanged after the upgrade.
  • The active and standby images of the HMM must be upgraded separately.
  • Upgrade the standby image first. After the standby image is upgraded, restart the server and upgrade the original active image.

Impact on the System

The HMM system restarts twice during the HMM software upgrade. Upgrade the HMM during off-peak hours to minimize the impact on services.

Prerequisites

Conditions

Data

Data preparation is not required for this operation.

Software

You have obtained image.hpm. For details, see Obtaining the Upgrade Packages and Documents.

NOTE:

The X6000 has two HMM models, MM630 and MM650. Before obtaining the software package, you need to query the model and then download the software upgrade package of a proper model.

To view the HMM model, run the ipmcget -d version command on the HMM CLI. In the command output, Product Name indicates the model.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the HMM.

    1. Log in to the HMM to upload the upgrade package. Select one of the following methods to log in to the HMM:
      • Method 1: Use the HMM IP address to log in to the HMM.
        1. In a cross-platform file transfer tool, connect to the HMM IP address.

WinSCP is an example of the cross-platform file transfer tool. For details, see Transferring Files Using WinSCP.

        2. Copy the HMM upgrade package to the /tmp directory of the HMM.
      • Method 2: Use Network Address Translation (NAT) to log in to the HMM.
        1. Log in to the HMM CLI using the server node management IP address. For details, see Logging In to the Management Module CLI Through the Management IP Address of the Server Node.
        2. In a cross-platform file transfer tool, connect to the iBMC management network port IP address of the server node.

WinSCP is an example of the cross-platform file transfer tool. For details, see Transferring Files Using WinSCP.

      NOTE:

In method 2, the iBMC management network port IP address of the server node and the port number of the HMM SSH NAT service are used. The port number is 30022 by default.

  2. Upgrade the standby HMM image.

    1. Run the ipmcset -d notimeout -v enabled command on the CLI to disable logout on timeout.
    2. Run the ipmcset -d upgrade -v /tmp/image.hpm command to upgrade the HMM software.
    3. Wait for the HMM system to complete the upgrade.

This process takes about 5 to 10 minutes. Ensure that the HMM is not powered off during the upgrade.

When Update successfully is displayed, the upgrade is successful.

      iBMC:->ipmcset -d upgrade -v /tmp/image.hpm
Please make sure the iBMC is working while upgrading.
      Updating...
      100%
      Update successfully.

After the upgrade is complete, the HMM system automatically restarts.

  3. Upgrade the original active HMM image.

    1. Log in to the HMM CLI again after the restart.
    2. Repeat Step 1 to upload the software package.
    3. Repeat Step 2 to upgrade the original active HMM image.
