License-related Concepts
- License: A license is an agreement that the supplier and customer arrive at and authorizes the range and period of using the purchased product (it refers to the software product in this document). Through the license, the customer also obtains the services committed by the supplier. A license is composed of a license file and a license entitlement certificate.
- License file
A license file is an entitlement file that controls the capacity, functions, and validity period of a software version. It is generated through a dedicated encryption tool based on contract information and delivered in electronic format.
Only one license file can be loaded on a device. If features or resources provided by a license file are insufficient, you can expand the license capacity to expand features or resources available on a device. During license capacity expansion, the Electronic Software Delivery Platform (ESDP) automatically merges all license items of the device and generates a new license file. The device only needs to load this license file.
- License entitlement certificate
A license entitlement certificate is also called a license certificate. It records license-related information such as the product name, entitlement ID (originally called LAC, which is short for license authorization code), customer name, and validity period. The certificate is used as credentials of owning a Huawei product license. A license entitlement certificate is delivered with products in electronic format (PDF file), and can be downloaded from the ESDP and then printed.
Only commercial licenses have license entitlement certificates.
- ESDP
ESDP is a system used by Huawei to generate and issue license keys based on purchase orders (POs) or application information and to manage license information. The ESDP URLs for channel partners and Huawei engineers are different.
Channel partners: https://esdp.huawei.com. For the usage guide, see WLAN License Usage Guide (V200).
Huawei engineers: https://app.huawei.com/isdp. For the usage guide, see WLAN License Usage Guide (for Huawei Engineers) (V200).
- Equipment serial number (ESN)
An ESN, also called device fingerprint, uniquely identifies a device and is key to authorizing a license to a specific device.
- LAC
An LAC, also called entitlement ID, is generated on the ESDP and used to authenticate users. On the ESDP website, you can enter license-related information, such as the LAC and ESN, to activate a license file. Huawei defines the LAC as an essential part of each license entitlement certificate.
- License serial number (LSN)
An LSN uniquely identifies a license file.
- Revocation code
A revocation code is a character string obtained when the license revocation command is executed on a device and is used to change the ESN through self-service on the ESDP. After you run the license revocation command on an NE, the license file of the NE is revoked.
- Grace period
When the validity period of a license file expires, the license file enters a grace period for a specified number of days (usually 60 days). In the grace period, features in the license file are still available. However, after the grace period, the features become unavailable.
