Conventional License
Definition
In the conventional license model, customers purchase different licenses or license packages based on their service requirements. These licenses take effect permanently. However, if new functions or features are required, customers need to purchase new licenses.
Purpose
After purchasing a device, you can only use basic functions of the device. To use value-added features or expand device resources due to service expansion, you need to purchase licenses of corresponding device functions or resources to meet service requirements.
Licenses help lower costs, as you can select licenses on demand to obtain customized functions.
Characteristics
- Convenience
Installing a license file on a device does not require a device reboot and will not affect running services.
- Security
A license file is bound to the Equipment Serial Number (ESN) of a device. That is, a license file belongs to only one device. A license file will become invalid if it is manually modified, protecting the license against theft.
- Disaster recovery
If an unexpected event such as an earthquake or rescue occurs, you can change the state of the license activated using the conventional license mechanism to Emergency. A resource license in this state does not limit resource usage, and allows the device to provide its maximal resources to meet service requirements. The Emergency state can only be used certain times within the specified period. For details, see Other: How Do I Enable the Emergency State of a License.
Usage Description
Depending on authorization, licenses are classified into function licenses and resource licenses.
Function license
A function license controls the usage of a specific function. To use a restricted function, you need to obtain a license for this function first.
Resource license
A resource license controls the number of available resource items. To use a resource item, you need to obtain a license for this resource item first.
You can use default resources provided by the product, or select one or more resource licenses based on actual service requirements. You can select the same resource license multiple times or select different types of resource licenses. The resource quantity is the sum of all resources in all selected resource licenses.
The resource capacity allowed by the licenses you purchased cannot exceed the maximum capacity of the product. To learn the maximum capacity of the product, contact Huawei local office.
Licenses are classified into the following types based on their functions:
Commercial (COMM) license
COMM licenses are purchased according to contracts. Most licenses are permanently valid, and some licenses have a fixed validity period. All purchased licenses are COMM licenses.
Non-commercial (or DEMO) license
DEMO licenses are used for special purposes such as test and trial. Such licenses are temporary licenses with strict validity periods.
