Installing the SVP

This section describes how to install the SVP.


  • A spare SVP for replacement is ready.
  • The cable connection position on the SVP to be replaced has been clearly marked.

Tools and Materials

  • ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves.
  • Flat-head screwdriver.


  1. Install the SVP.
    1. At least two persons lift the SVP on two sides and move it to the rack.
    2. Place the SVP on the guide rails and push it into the rack, as shown in Figure 7-14.

    3. When the two mounting ears on the SVP contact the mounting bars on the rack, tighten the captive screws on the mounting ears to secure the SVP.
  2. Connect the cables and power on the SVP.
  3. Set the IP address of a management network port on the SVP. For details, see Installation Guide.
  4. Ensure that the SVP version is consistent with the engine version of the storage system.
    1. Start PuTTY on the SVP and use the IP address of the management network port to log in to the engine.
    2. Run the show upgrade package command to obtain the engine version.
    3. In Windows, go to the D:\huawei directory, open the version file with Notepad, and check whether the SVP version is consistent with the engine version in the first line.

      • If yes, go to 5.
      • If no, go to 4.d.

  5. Optional: Set the GSM modem. For details, see Installation Guide.
  6. Activate the antivirus software. For details, see Installation Guide.

    You can also use the license that you have applied for to activate the antivirus software.
