Creating an Oracle Snapshot

Creating an Oracle Snapshot

After a snapshot has been created and activated for an Oracle instance, a data duplicate group is generated. Users can read and write duplicates without changing the source data. This enhances data security.

  • At least one Oracle instance has been created in the storage system.
  • The snapshot license is valid.

A snapshot created for an Oracle instance is actually a snapshot group because when you create a snapshot for an Oracle instance, you actually create a snapshot for each LUN contained in the instance. Choose Data Protection > Snapshot to view the snapshot of each LUN.

  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Provisioning > Application > Oracle.
  3. Select the Oracle instance you want to create a snapshot for and click Create Snapshot.

The Create Snapshot dialog box is displayed.

  4. Set snapshot parameters.

Table 7-17 describes the related parameters.

    Activate Now

If this is selected, a snapshot is activated immediately after it is created.

  5. Confirm your settings.
    1. Click OK.

The Execution Result dialog box is displayed, indicating the operation result.

    2. Click Close.

Follow-up Procedure

After you create a Hyper-V snapshot, select an instance and click the Snapshot tab in Details. You can then use the snapshot according to your service requirements.
