Managing Remote Devices

Managing Remote Devices

This section describes common operations to manage remote devices including creation, modification and deletion, and precautions for performing the operations.

Table B-16 lists common operations to manage remote devices.
Table B-16  Common operations to manage remote devices

When establishing logical links between local and remote devices, you can add remote devices and links as needed.

  • Connections between local and remote devices are normal.
  • To add remote devices when firewalls are configured, you must enable ports 36061 and 3260.
  • A maximum of eight links can be added to remote devices but only two will work concurrently.

View basic information and status information about remote devices, remote links, remote LUNs, and eDevLUNs.

Modify authentication information and data compression policies of remote devices, bandwidth and bandwidth usage of remote links, as well as cache policies and prefetch policies of eDevLUNs.

Modifying advanced information is only available to remote links of remote devices whose type is Replication.

You can remove a remote link or device if not using it any longer.

Expand the capacity of eDevLUNs as needed by services.

  • Any eDevLUN used by the snapshot, remote replication, HyperMirror, or SmartMigration cannot be expanded.
  • eDevLUNs can be expanded only after the remote LUN capacity is increased. eDevLUNs can only be fully expanded. The total capacity after expansion equals the remote LUN capacity.
  • To ensure data integrity, stop services on eDevLUNs before expanding them.
For details about how to perform the management operations above, see the Help.
