Routine maintenance activities are the most common activities for the storage device, including powering on or off the storage device, managing users, modifying basic parameters of the storage device, and managing hardware components. This document applies to the system administrators who are responsible for carrying out routine maintenance activities, monitoring the storage device, and rectifying common device faults.

Enable SM Notification

The following procedure guides you through the configuration for sending alarm notifications for alarms in a specific level of severity to a specific recipient's mobile phone via text message.


  • You have logged in to the DeviceManager as an administrator that has permission. Only administrators and super administrators have permission.
  • An SMS modem has been installed on the system or maintenance terminal. The COM port of the SMS modem has been configured to send short messages.
  • For sending alarms to the SMS modem, a storage system only sends the alarms generated after the SM notification function is configured and does not send alarms generated before the configuration.


The short message (SM) notification function is not available to read-only users.


  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Settings > Alarm Settings > SM Notification.
  3. Set a mobile phone number to receive short messages.
    1. Select Enable.
    2. Set a phone number for the Short Message (SM) service center.


      The phone number must be in the following format: plus sign+country code+11 digit phone number of your local SM service center.

    3. Add a mobile phone number or change the existing one.

      • Add a mobile phone number.
        1. Click Add.

          The Add Recipient Information dialog box is displayed.

        2. Set a mobile phone number and select an alarm severity for it.
        3. Click OK.
      • Change the existing mobile phone number.
        1. Select the mobile phone number that you want to change and click Modify.

          The Modify Recipient Information dialog box is displayed.

        2. Update the mobile phone number and select an alarm severity for it.
        3. Click OK.

  4. Optional: Click Test to test whether the storage system has sent alarm notification.
  5. Click Save.

    The Execution Result dialog box is displayed.

  6. Click Close.
