Logging In to the CLI of the Storage System

Logging In to the CLI of the Storage System

After logging in to the storage system through the command line interface (CLI), you can query, set, manage, and maintain the storage system. This document uses Windows Server 2008 as an example. For maintenance terminal running other versions of operating systems, adjust the operations based on actual conditions.

You can log in to the Storage System by either of the following methods:
  • Through the serial port

The maintenance terminal has been connected to the serial port on the storage device through a serial cable.

  • Through the management network port

    • You can log in to CLI through IPV4 or IPV6.
    • After connecting the controller enclosure to the maintenance terminal by using a network cable, you can log in to the storage system by using any type of remote login software that supports the SSH (This document uses the PuTTY software as an example).
      NOTE:

For a maintenance terminal's access to the storage system using the management network port on the controller enclosure of the storage system, the SSH protocol also supports public key authentication besides user name + password authentication. If the super administrator enables public key authentication for a user and imports a public key for the user, the user must import the private key that matches the public key when logging in to the storage system. After the public and private keys are authenticated, the user can access the storage system. To configure public key authentication, see Administrator Guide.

    • For a 2 U controller enclosure (5300 V3/5500 V3), the initial IP address of the management network ports: controller A is 192.168.128.101, controller B is 192.168.128.102, and the default subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. For a 3 U or 6 U controller enclosure (5600 V3/5800 V3/6800 V3), the initial IP address of the management network ports: management modules 0 is 192.168.128.101, management modules 1 is 192.168.128.102, and the default subnet mask is 255.255.0.0.
    • Make sure that the IP address of the controller enclosure's management network port is in the same network segment as that of the maintenance terminal. Otherwise, you can modify the IP address of the management network port through a serial port. For details, see the change system management_ip command.

  • This document uses the PuTTY software as an example. You can download the PuTTY software from the http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk.

  • You are advised to use the latest version of PuTTY, otherwise you may fail to log in to the storage system.
  1. Run the PuTTY software. The PuTTY Configuration dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 1-1.

  2. Set Connection type to Serial. In the Serial line text box, enter the name of the serial port that connects the maintenance terminal to the storage system, for example, COM1. In Speed, enter 115200.
You can query the serial port that connects the maintenance terminal to the storage system as follows (Windows 7 is used as an example):
    1. Right-click the icon of Computer on the desktop of the maintenance terminal and choose Manage from the shortcut menu.
    2. In the navigation tree of the Computer Manager dialog box, choose System Tools > Device Manager.
    3. Click Ports. The serial port that connects the maintenance terminal to the storage system, for example, COM1.

There may be multiple serial port names, such as COM1, COM2, and COM3, on the maintenance terminal. Try these ports until you can successfully log in to the storage system.

  3. Click OK. When the connection succeeds, the following output is displayed.
    Storage Login:
  4. Enter the user name and password as prompted. You are required to change the password upon your initial login to ensure system security. If the login succeeds, the following information is displayed.
