Installing a microSD Card

This section describes the precautions and procedure for installing a microSD card to a CH225 V3.

Scenarios

Install a microSD card in either of the following scenarios:

  • Replace a faulty microSD card.
  • Replace a microSD card with a new model.

Figure 8-76 shows the numbering and positions of the microSD cards.

Prerequisites

Conditions

Data

Data preparation is not required for this operation.

Tools

  • Electrostatic discharge (ESD) gloves.
  • Packing materials, for example, an ESD bag.

Hardware

Spare microSD card.

The spare microSD card cannot contain any data. To view or delete partitions or data on the card, follow the instructions provided in scenario 2 or 3 in Erasing Storage Media Data.

Procedure

  1. Determine the position of the microSD card to be replaced, as shown in Figure 8-76.

    NOTE:
    Install microSD cards based on actual situation.
    • If the server is not installed with microSD cards, install microSD cards when the server is powered off.
    • If the server is configured with only one microSD card, migrate the important data on the microSD card to another storage device before replacing the microSD card. If the microSD card is faulty, power off the server and replace the microSD card when the server is powered off. If the microSD card is installed with the OS, install the OS on the newly installed microSD card.
    • If the server has two microSD cards and only one microSD card is faulty, replace the faulty microSD card when the server is powered off.
    • If the server has two microSD cards and both of them are faulty, replace the microSD cards when the server is powered off. If the OS is installed on a microSD card, migrate the important data on the microSD card to another storage device before replacing the microSD card. After replacing the microSD card, reinstall the OS.

  2. Take the spare microSD card out of its ESD bag.
  3. Insert the microSD card into the slot until it does not move, as shown in Figure 8-77.

    If the server has two microSD cards, install the new microSD cards in the same slots as the replaced ones.

  4. Check the microSD card status.

    • Log in to the iBMC WebUI, choose Information > System Info, select the Other Devices tab, and check the microSD card status. For details, see the Huawei Rack Server iBMC User Guide.
    • If one of the two microSD cards is replaced, view the iBMC event log information to check whether the microSD card rebuild is complete.

      In the iBMC event log, "Data rebuild starts at SD card N" is logged after the server is powered on. N indicates the microSD card slot No. "Data rebuild stops at SD card N indicates the microSD card rebuild is complete.

      If the microSD card is in abnormal status, contact Huawei technical support.
