Installing a Supercapacitor

Installing a Supercapacitor

This section describes the precautions and procedure for installing a supercapacitor to a CH225 V3.

Install a supercapacitor in either of the following scenarios:

  • A supercapacitor fails and is to be replaced.
  • A supercapacitor is to be replaced with a new model.

When an LSISAS2208 or LSISAS3108 RAID controller card is installed, you can install a supercapacitor to prevent cache data from being lost in case of power failures.

Figure 8-54 shows the position of the supercapacitor.

Data preparation is not required for this operation.

  • Electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap.
  • M3 Phillips screwdriver.
  • Packaging materials, for example, an ESD bag.

Spare supercapacitor.

  1. Take the trans flash module (TFM) out of the ESD bag.
  2. Remove the RAID controller card off the mainboard. For details, see Removing the Supercapacitor.
  3. Vertically place the TFM on the RAID controller card while aligning the screw holes on the TFM with connectors (bolts) on the RAID controller card, and tighten the two screws using a Phillips screwdriver. See steps (1) and (2) in Figure 8-55.

  4. Vertically place a supercapacitor box on the TFM, align the screws that secure the supercapacitor box with the screw holes on the RAID controller card, and use a Phillips screwdriver to tighten the two screws for securing the TFM. See steps (1) and (2) in Figure 8-56.

  5. Take a new supercapacitor out of the ESD bag.
  6. Horizontally push the supercapacitor into the capacitor box until the supercapacitor is secured by the plastic latches. See step (1) in Figure 8-57.

  7. Connect the supercapacitor's 6-pin cable to the RAID controller card. See step (2) in Figure 8-57.
