Configuring VXLAN

Context

The VLAN technology used to divide virtual networks cannot provide sufficient VLAN isolation domains when the data volume increases rapidly. In addition, VMs can only work at Layer 2 on VLAN networks and VLAN configuration must be completed in advance. To solve these problems, you can configure VXLAN to implement isolation on a large Layer 2 network and use UDP tunnels to enable VMs to communicate at Layer 3.

Procedure

  1. Run:

    system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run:

    interface interface-type interface-number

    The interface view is displayed.

  3. Run:

    vxlan vni vni-id

    A VNI view is created and the VNI view is displayed.

    By default, no VNI is created.

  4. Run:

    vxlan source ip-address

    An IP address is configured for the source VTEP.

    By default, no IP address is configured for the source VTEP.

  5. Run:

    vxlan peer ip-address

    An IP address is configured for the peer VTEP.

    By default, no IP address is configured for the peer VTEP.
