Security Policy Introduction

This section describes the definition and features of security policies on the device.

With the network development, increasing new applications bring more conveniences to people's network life, but also cause more security risks. When internal hosts access the Internet, worms, Trojan horses, and other viruses may be introduced accidentally from the Internet and cause confidential data leakage and huge losses to enterprises. To protect the internal network security, enterprises must identify and monitor traffic contents on the basis of controlling traffic sources and destinations. However, traditional single packet detection mechanism only analyzes the security of a single packet, and cannot defend against network threats such as buffer overflow attacks, Trojan horses, and worms that occur during a normal network access process. A security policy not only forwards network traffic, but also implements integrated content security detection on network traffic.

In integrated content security detection, the device uses the intelligent awareness engine to detect and process traffic contents only once, and implements content security functions including the IPS, URL filtering. The integrated detection is highly efficient. You can configure broad security policy conditions to match a type of traffic, and ensure the network security using various content security functions.

As shown in Figure 6-1, the device can identify traffic attributes and match the attributes with security policy conditions. If all conditions are matched, the traffic matches the security policy successfully. Otherwise, the traffic is allowed to pass through. After traffic matches the security policy, the device implements content security detection on the traffic, and performs corresponding actions according to the detection result.

  • If the detection result is permit or alarm, the traffic is allowed to pass through. If the detection result is alarm, the device records a log.

  • If the detection result is blocking, the traffic is not allowed to pass through.
