Firewall Between the Internal and External Networks

As shown in Figure 5-20, a firewall is deployed between the internal and external networks to prevent the external network from attacking the internal network. On an internal network that uses private addresses, the firewall can be used together with NAT and application level gateway (ALG) to improve network security.
