ike nat-keepalive-timer interval

ike nat-keepalive-timer interval

The ike nat-keepalive-timer interval command sets the interval at which NAT keepalive packets are sent by an IKE SA.

The undo ike nat-keepalive-timer interval command restores the default interval at which NAT keepalive packets are sent by an IKE SA.

By default, an IKE SA sends NAT keepalive packets every 20 seconds.

ike nat-keepalive-timer interval interval

undo ike nat-keepalive-timer interval

Specifies the interval at which NAT keepalive packets are sent by an IKE SA.

The value is an integer that ranges from 5 to 300, in seconds.

Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

If a NAT gateway is deployed between IKE peers, configure NAT traversal so that IPSec packets can pass through the NAT gateway. If no IPSec packet travels across an IPSec tunnel in a period of time, the NAT mapping may be aged out and deleted because the NAT mapping has the keepalive time. As a result, the IPSec tunnel cannot transmit IPSec packets between the NAT gateway and the IKE peer connected to the public network.

To prevent the NAT mapping from being aged, an IKE SA on the private network side of the NAT gateway sends NAT keepalive packets to its peer at a certain interval to maintain the NAT session.

Run the nat traversal command to enable nat traversal.

# Set the interval at which NAT keepalive packets are sent by an IKE SA to 30 seconds.
