Function

The poe power-reserved command configures the percentage of the reserved PoE power against the total PoE power.

The undo poe power-reserved command restores the default percentage of the reserved PoE power against the total PoE power.

By default, 20% of the total power is reserved.

Specifies the percentage of the reserved PoE power against the available PoE power.

The value is an integer that ranges from 0 to 100, in percentage.

The default value is 20.

Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

The device can dynamically allocate power to each port according to the power consumption of each port. The power consumption of a PD keeps changing during operation. The device periodically calculates the total power consumption of all the connected PDs. If the total power consumption exceeds the upper threshold, the device cuts off power supply to the PDs connected to low-priority ports to ensure that other PDs can run normally.

Sometimes, however, the power consumption increases sharply and the system available power cannot support the power surge. Before the system software finds that the power consumption has exceeded the upper threshold and determines to power off the PDs connected to low-priority ports, the PoE power supply will enter the overcurrent protection state because of the overload and cut off power supply to all PDs.

To solve this problem, run the poe power-reserved command to set the proper reserved power. When the power consumption increases sharply, the reserved power can support the power surge. Then the system software has time to power off the PDs connected to low-priority ports to ensure stable operation of other PDs.

Precautions

The configured system reserved power does not exceed 20% of the total power. Otherwise, the system power supply capability may be affected.
