VXLAN Configuration Commands

VXLAN Configuration Commands

vxlan peer

Function

The vxlan peer command configures an IP address for the peer VXLAN tunnel endpoint (VTEP).

The undo vxlan peer command deletes the IP address of the peer VTEP.

By default, no IP address is configured for the peer VTEP.

Format

vxlan peer ip-address

undo vxlan peer

Parameters

Parameter

Description

Value

ip-address

Specifies the IP address of the peer VTEP.

The value is in dotted decimal notation.

Views

Ethernet interface view, GE interface view

Default Level

2: Configuration level

Usage Guidelines

You can run the vxlan peer ip-address command to create a peer VTEP and set an IP address for it.

Example

# Set the IP address of the peer VTEP to 192.168.1.6.

<Huawei> system-view
[Huawei] interface Ethernet0/0/0
[Huawei-Ethernet0/0/0] vxlan peer 192.168.1.6

vxlan source

Function

The vxlan source command configures an IP address for the source VXLAN tunnel endpoint (VTEP).

The undo vxlan source command deletes the IP address of the source VTEP.

By default, no IP address is configured for the source VTEP.

Format

vxlan source ip-address

undo vxlan source

Parameters

Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

A VTEP is an endpoint of a VXLAN tunnel on a Network Virtualization Edge (NVE) device and is used to encapsulate and decapsulate VXLAN packets.

When configuring a VXLAN tunnel, you can run the vxlan source command to configure an IP address for the source VTEP. The IP address of the source VTEP is the source IP address of VXLAN packets, and IP address of the peer VTEP is the destination IP address of VXLAN packets. This pair of VTEP addresses corresponds to a VXLAN tunnel.

Precautions

You can specify the IP address of an actual physical interface or a loopback interface as the IP address of the source VTEP. The address of a loopback interface is recommended.

Example

# Set the IP address of the source VTEP to 192.168.1.3.

<Huawei> system-view
[Huawei] interface Ethernet0/0/0
[Huawei-Ethernet0/0/0] vxlan source 192.168.1.3

vxlan vni

Function

The vxlan vni command creates a VXLAN network identifier (VNI) and displays the VNI view. If the specified VNI exists, this command displays the VNI view.

The undo vxlan vni command deletes an existing VNI.

By default, no VNI is created.

Format

vxlan vni vni-id

undo vxlan vni

Parameters

Parameter

Description

Value

vni-id

Specifies the VNI ID.

The value is an integer that ranges from 4096 to 9999999.

Views

Ethernet interface view, GE interface view

Default Level

2: Configuration level

Usage Guidelines

Similar to VLAN IDs, VNIs are used to identify VXLAN segments or tenants. A VNI identifies only one tenant. Even if multiple terminal users belong to the same VNI, they are considered one tenant.

Example

# Create a VNI numbered 5000 on the Ethernet interface.

<Huawei> system-view
[Huawei] interface Ethernet0/0/0
[Huawei-Ethernet0/0/0] vxlan vni 5000
