Hot Plug

Hot Plug

This section describes how to hot-plug a PCIe SSD.

Hot plug includes the following two ways:
  • Orderly hot plug: Users can directly insert a PCIe SSD when the OS is running, but needs to notify the OS before removing a PCIe SSD.
  • Surprise hot plug: Users can directly insert or remove a PCIe SSD.

The ES3000 V3 NVMe PCIe SSD card does not support orderly or surprise hot plug. The ES3000 V3 NVMe PCIe SSD disk supports orderly hot plug.

  • Swap only one ES3000 V3 disk at a time. After one ES3000 V3 disk is removed or inserted, wait for at least 3 seconds before swapping or inserting another disk.
  • SSD hot plug may affect services running on the SSD. Before performing a hot plug, notify system maintenance personnel to ensure service security.
  • If you insert the ES3000 V3 disk when it is not installed on a hard disk tray, it may fail to be detected.
  • After the ES3000 V3 disk is removed, wait for at least 3 seconds before inserting it again. If you insert the ES3000 V3 disk again when it is halfway removed, it may fail to be detected.
  • Do not pause when inserting the ES3000 V3 disk, otherwise, it may fail to be detected and leads to system exceptions. If the disk cannot be detected or system exceptions occur, power cycle the server after the disk is properly installed.
  • If the ES3000 V3 fails to be detected due to improper insertion, remove and insert it again.
