Introduction

Introduction

This section describes the background, definition, purpose and benefits of UniformView.

Background

As image processing and network technologies develop rapidly, customers' requirements for the video surveillance system become increasingly diversified and systematized and the importance of centrally managing massive storage data becomes obvious as a result. The OceanStor 9000 delivers the UniformView feature to centrally monitor storage resources across regions.

Definition

As a client software of OceanStor 9000, UniformView consolidates OceanStor 9000 storage resources and provides a unified global view in cross-regional video surveillance scenarios.

Physical distribution of storage resources is masked. Upper-layer applications do not need to know physical distribution of underlying storage resources. After the OceanStor 9000 shared directory is mounted to UniformView using NFS, UniformView can read but cannot write all the files in the directory. The video surveillance management platform accesses the shared directories mounted in UniformView through a Portable Operating System Interface Standard (POSIX) interface, as shown in Figure 10-1.

NOTE:

POSIX is a series of application programming interface (API) standards defined by IEEE for software running in UNIX. POSIX is formally designated as IEEE 1003 and the international standard name is ISO/IEC 9945.

Purpose and Benefits

Purpose and Benefits provided by UniformView feature for users are listed in Table 10-1.

Purpose and Benefits

Description

Centralized monitoring

UniformView consolidates cross-regional OceanStor 9000 storage resources and provides a unified global view. This feature meets the requirement of centralized management of scattered monitored sites.

Data security

After the OceanStor 9000 shared directory is mounted to UniformView using NFS, UniformView can read but cannot write all the files in the directory, ensuring data security.
