Configuring BFD for OSPF

Configuring BFD for OSPF

With BFD for OSPF enabled, an OSPF process or interface can be notified of the link faults detected by BFD to quickly detect the link status, and fault detection can be completed in milliseconds. This speeds up OSPF convergence when the status of a link changes.

The priority of BFD configured on an interface is higher than that of BFD configured in a process. When BFD for OSPF is enabled in a process, it takes effect on all interfaces under the process. When BFD is enabled on an interface, the configuration on the interface is used for setting up BFD sessions on the interface.

The following describes how to configure BFD for OSPF in a process or on an interface. The parameters for setting up BFD sessions are set as follows: Set the minimum interval at which BFD packets are received from the remote end to 600ms, set the minimum interval at which BFD packets are sent to the remote end to 600ms, set the local detection multiplier to 4, and bind the BFD session status with OSPF IP FRR.

  • Configure BFD in a process.

    <HUAWEI> system-view
[~HUAWEI] bfd //Enable the BFD function globally and enter the global BFD view.
    [*HUAWEI-bfd] quit
    [*HUAWEI-ospf-1] ospf 1
[*HUAWEI-ospf-1] bfd all-interfaces enable //Enable BFD in the OSPF process to set up BFD sessions.
    [*HUAWEI-ospf-1] bfd all-interfaces min-rx-interval 600 min-tx-interval 600 detect-multiplier 4 frr-binding

  • Configure BFD on an interface.
