This section introduces how to establish logical connections between a remote storage system and a local storage system when Fibre Channel connection is adopted between the two storage systems.

Configuring a Heterogeneous Storage System

Configure the heterogeneous storage system and map the LUNs of the storage system to the local storage system.

Table 3-5 lists the operations that must be performed in the heterogeneous storage system.

Configuration Procedure


Create a LUN group.

To centrally manage multiple LUNs, add the LUNs in the heterogeneous storage system to a LUN group.

A local storage system cannot take over thin LUNs on the heterogeneous storage system online. Do not add thin LUNs to LUN groups.

Create a host.

For the heterogeneous storage system, the local storage system is equivalent to a host. You can create a host and add its initiator to the local storage system to establish a logical connection between the heterogeneous storage system and local storage system.

The host operating system must be the same as that set when the heterogeneous storage system is connected to an application server.

Create a host group.

To achieve convenient management of multiple hosts, add hosts to a host group.

Create a mapping view.

Create a mapping view to map the LUNs of the heterogeneous storage system to the local storage system.


Operations vary depending on different models of heterogeneous storage systems. The preceding configuration procedures are for reference only. For details, see the operation guide of heterogeneous storage systems of each model.

Full Automatic Scanning for LUNs (Applicable to FC Connection)

Full automatic LUN scanning enables all LUNs of the heterogeneous storage systems that have been mapped to the local storage system to be connected to the local storage system.


A heterogeneous storage device has mapped its LUNs to the local storage device.


Full automatic scan is used to scan for the LUNs and links of heterogeneous devices only.


  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Data Protection > Remote Device.
  3. Click Full Automatic Scan.

    The Confirm dialog box is displayed. The scan may take tens of seconds.

  4. Click OK.

    The Full Automatic LUN Scan dialog box is displayed. The system starts to execute full automatic scanning. The LUNs mapped from the remote device to the local device are displayed on the Remote LUN tab page.

  5. Click Close.

Follow-up Procedure

If alarm "Incompatible Heterogeneous Array Connected to the System" is reported after this operation, contact Huawei technical support engineers to add the heterogeneous storage device to the whitelist.
