Storage Planning

This section describes the HyperMetro storage planning.

Both HyperMetro storage systems must comply with the following principles.

Storage Device

  • The local and remote storage systems use the same software platform and version.
  • Both storage systems have the HyperMetro license.

Storage Pool

  • The storage pools where the HyperMetro LUNs reside use the same storage media and configurations (such as RAID and SmartTier policies).
  • To ensure normal service running, reserve 0.5% of the LUN capacity in the storage pool to store metadata.


  • The types of LUNs that form a HyperMetro pair are the same. That is, they must both be thin or thick LUNs.
  • Both LUNs must have the same SmartTier, SmartQoS, SmartDedupe, and SmartCompression policies.
  • The LUNs in a HyperMetro pair must be mapped to all hosts.
  • The LUNs used by a database or VM must be added to the same consistency group. The snapshots of LUNs used by the same application must be protected by a consistency group.
  • If either of the two storage systems has taken over a heterogeneous storage system, heterogeneous LUNs (eDevLUNs) can be used to create HyperMetro pairs.

    The eDevLUNs that are taken over online cannot be used to create HyperMetro pairs.


HyperMetro pairs of the same service must be added to the same HyperMetro consistency group.
