Expand the capacity of the HyperMetro LUN

Expand the capacity of the HyperMetro LUN

If LUN space where service data resides is insufficient, you can increase LUN capacity to meet your service requirements.

Context

To perform LUN capacity expansion in the HyperMetro feature, you must delete the HyperMetro pair. After completing the capacity expansion, you must resynchronize data. Perform the following operations:

NOTE:

The primary LUN is the LUN that provides services. The secondary LUN is the LUN that stops providing services.

Procedure

  • Offline expansion (In scenarios where the CPU usage and disk usage exceed 50%, the HyperMetro replication bandwidth is insufficient, or the distance between data centers exceeds 25 km).
    1. Stop upper-layer services.
    2. Remove the primary and secondary LUNs from their owning LUN groups.
    3. Suspend the HyperMetro pair.
    4. Delete the HyperMetro pair.
    5. Expand the capacity of the primary and secondary LUNs.
      NOTE:
      • After the expansion, capacities of the primary and secondary LUNs must be consistent.
      • For details about how to expand a LUN, see the capacity expansion guide corresponding to your product model.
    6. Create a HyperMetro pair.
      NOTE:
      • Select The data at the local and remote ends is consistent. Synchronization is not required after the creation is complete.
      • The storage arrays on which a HyperMetro pair is created before or after capacity expansion must be the same to ensure that the data synchronization directions of the HyperMetro pair are the same. For example, if you create a HyperMetro pair on the storage array at the preferred site before capacity expansion, create it again on the storage array at the preferred site after capacity expansion.
    7. Map the primary and secondary LUNs to the host.
    8. On the host, scan for LUNs.
    9. Restart services.
  • Online expansion (In scenarios where the CPU usage and disk usage do not exceed 50%, the HyperMetro replication bandwidth is sufficient, or the distance between data centers is relatively short).
    1. Suspend the HyperMetro pair.
      NOTE:

In the Pause HyperMetro Pair dialog box, select Non-preferred.

    2. Remove the secondary LUN from its owning LUN group.
    3. Delete the HyperMetro pair.
    4. Expand the capacity of the primary and secondary LUNs.
      NOTE:
      • After the expansion, capacities of the primary and secondary LUNs must be consistent.
      • For details about how to expand a LUN, see the capacity expansion guide corresponding to your product model.
    5. On the storage array of the preferred site, create a HyperMetro pair.
      NOTE:

Select Local and remote data is inconsistent. After the creation is complete, data is automatically synchronized.

    6. If you want to uninstall the arbitration softwareMap the secondary LUN to the host.
    7. On the host, scan for LUNs.
