Installing a Hot-Swappable PCIe Card

Installing a Hot-Swappable PCIe Card

Install a hot-swappable PCIe card on a BIO to replace a faulty one.

The support for hot swap of PCIe cards depends on the OS type. For details, see Server Compatibility Checker.

  • Only one hot-swappable PCIe card can be removed at a time.
  • The intervals between the removal and between the insertion of two PCIe cards must be longer than 20 seconds.

No data preparation is required for this operation.

  • ESD gloves
  • Packaging materials, for example, an ESD bag

Spare hot-swappable PCIe card

  1. Take the spare hot-swappable PCIe card out of its ESD bag.
  2. Gently insert the hot-swappable PCIe card into the BIO in the REE as far as it will go. See Figure 6-146.

  3. Determine the locations of the status indicator, power indicator, and hot swap button on the PCIe card. See Figure 6-147.
  4. Press the hot swap button below the PCIe card.
  5. Observe the power indicator on the PCIe card. Within 10 seconds (during which the power indicator is blinking), you can press the hot swap button again to cancel the hot insertion operation.

Wait for at least 10 seconds until the power indicator is steady on, which indicates that the power supply to the PCIe card is normal.
