Removing a CMC

Removing a CMC

Scenarios

Remove a central management console (CMC) if it has failed.

Prerequisites

Conditions

Determine whether the CMC to be removed is active or standby.

  • If the standby CMC has failed, remove it directly.
  • If both the active CMC and the standby CMC have failed, replace them as follows:
    1. Observe the indicators of both CMCs to identify the active and standby CMCs.
    2. Replace the standby CMC.

After you replace the standby CMC and the health indicator of the standby CMC is steady green, wait for 5 minutes until data is synchronized from the active CMC to the standby one.

    3. On the active CMC, run the smmset [-l smm] -d failover -v 1 command to perform an active/standby failover.
    4. Replace the current standby CMC (original active CMC).

Do not remove two CMCs at the same time.

Data

No data preparation is required for this operation.

Tools

  • ESD gloves
  • Packaging materials, for example, an ESD bag

Procedure

  1. Press the ejector release button on the CMC. The ejector levers eject automatically. See step (1) in Figure 6-29.
  2. Fully open the CMC ejector levers. See step (2) in Figure 6-29.
  3. Gently remove the CMC by holding its ejector levers. See step (3) in Figure 6-29.
  4. Place the removed CMC in an ESD bag.
