Capacity Expansion in Combined Cabinets

Combined-cabinet capacity expansion is not supported when single-phase power distribution units (PDUs) are used.

When the load bearing capacity of the equipment room is insufficient, combined-cabinet capacity expansion to 9032-32P, 9016 (12P/16P)+1 REE, or 9016 (12P/16P)+2 REEs is supported. The following tables provide the typical scenarios.

During combined-cabinet capacity expansion, the original cabinet is considered as the primary cabinet by default and is placed on the right. The new cabinet is the secondary cabinet and is placed on the left. You are advised to plan the installation positions of guide rails according to Figure 8-4.

Procedure

  1. Determine the capacity expansion materials and the operations to be performed.

    For example, to expand capacity from 9016(12P/16P)+1REE, one SCE expansion packages, one REE expansion package, one cabinet expansion package, two left-hand acoustic doors, two three-phase PDUs, and 12 NI cables are required.

  2. Remove power cables, NI cables, PCIe cables, and rear cable trays. If new PDUs are to be configured, remove the PDUs as well.
  3. See Figure 8-4 to determine whether to adjust the positions of existing SCEs and other devices. If yes, see Figure 8-4 for details.
  4. Remove the riser blocks and front bezels from the positions where capacity expansion is to be performed.
    1. Use a screwdriver to pry up the spring on the riser block.
    2. Rotate the riser block and remove it. See Figure 8-5.

  5. Install guide rails, trays, adjustable guide rails, floating nuts, and PDUs in the planned positions to perform the combined-cabinet capacity expansion. For details, see Installing Cabinets (Combined Cabinets) and Installing Components.
  6. Keep the front door of the original cabinet unchanged, install the rear door of the original cabinet to the rear of the new cabinet, and install the left-hand doors at the rear of the original cabinet and at the front of the new cabinet. For details, see Installing Front and Rear Acoustic Doors.
  7. Connect the cables. For details, see Installing Cables.
