Installing an NI Cable
Operation Scenario
Install a node interconnect (NI) cable to replace the faulty one or if it is not properly connected.
Prerequisites
Conditions
You have determined the cabinet number and location of the server where an NI cable is to be installed.
Before installing an NI cable, ensure that the service system is powered off to avoid equipment damage and personal injury due to an incorrect or loose connection.
Before installing the NI cable, ensure that the cable length is proper. For details about the cable specifications, see Table 2-43. For the cable connection, see Figure 3-64. If you can not determine the cable length, you are advised to bring a 1.5 m cable and a 2.3 m cable as spare parts.
Data
No data preparation is required for this operation.
Tools
- ESD gloves
Procedure
- Take the spare NI cable out of its ESD bag.
- View the engineering label content of the NI cable, and note down the content in blank engineering labels.
- Attach the engineering labels to both ends of the NI cable.
- Remove the dustproof cap from the NI cable connector, align the cable connector with the port, and horizontally insert the connector into the port. See Figure 6-154.
- Push the NI cable connector inward and ensure that the cable is properly installed.
- After an NI cable is installed, attempt to pull it out gently. If the NI cable is securely connected, push the connector inward again to ensure that the connector is latched.
- After installing an NI cable, wait for 30 seconds before you power on the service system.
