Connecting a Ground Cable to the Cabinet

  • Precautions

  • Preparations for installation
    • The server and its internal components have been properly installed.
    • Ground cables are available and placed near the server.
  • Tools
    • Phillips screwdriver: used to loosen or tighten screws
    • ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves: used to prevent ESD damage
    • A ground cable in yellow-green has OT terminals at both ends and its cross-sectional area is 16 mm² (0.04 in.²), as shown in Figure 3-111.
  • The ground cables for all devices inside the cabinet are connected to one protection ground.
  • The resistance between the cabinet and the earth must be less than 5 ohms.

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves.
  2. Loosen and remove the screw from the ground hole on the server using a Phillips screwdriver, and connect one end of the ground cable to the removed screw. Install the screw in the ground hole, and tighten the screw. See Figure 3-112.

  3. Loosen and remove a screw (the screw nearest to the server) on the ground bar in the cabinet using a Phillips screwdriver, and connect the other end of the ground cable to the removed screw. Install the screw in the ground bar, and tighten the screw.

All ground cables in the cabinet are connected to the ground bars on two sides of the cabinet. External ground cables are connected to the M8 ground posts at the top and bottom of the cabinet. The ground cables of the system compute enclosures (SCEs) can be connected to a near ground bar of the cabinet by using M6 screws.
