Removing a Hard Disk (Switch Module)

Scenarios

Remove a hard disk in any of the following scenarios:

  • A hard disk has failed.
  • A hard disk needs to be replaced with a new model.
  • A hard disk has no free space.

Prerequisites

Conditions

  • You do not need to power off the server when removing a hard disk.
  • If services are running on the SCE where the hard disk is located, back up the data on the hard disk and delete RAID configuration.

Data

No data preparation is required for this operation.

Tools

  • ESD gloves
  • Packaging materials, for example, an ESD bag

Procedure

  1. Press the ejector release button on the hard disk. The ejector lever ejects automatically. See step (1) in Figure 6-133.
  2. Fully open the hard disk ejector lever. See step (2) in Figure 6-133.
  3. Hold the ejector lever, and pull the hard disk out about 3 cm (1.18 in.). Wait for at least 30s until the hard disk stops spinning, and remove the hard disk from the switch module. See step (3) in Figure 6-133.
  4. Place the removed hard disk in an ESD bag.
