Capacity Expansion in a Single Huawei Cabinet

According to the product configuration, the capacity expansion in a single cabinet mainly covers the scenarios in which the server configuration is 9032-32P or 9016-16P with one or two REEs after capacity expansion. The following tables provide the typical scenarios.

Procedure

  1. Determine the capacity expansion materials and the operations to be performed.

    For example, to expand capacity from 9008 (4P/8P) to 9032-20P, two SCE expansion packages and 18 NI cables are required. If single-phase PDUs are used, this capacity expansion is not supported. If three-phase PDUs are used, you can perform the capacity expansion without adding more three-phase PDUs.

  2. Remove power cables, NI cables, PCIe cables, and rear cable trays.
  3. Determine whether to add PDUs. For details about how to install a PDU, seeInstalling a PDU.
  4. Determine whether to adjust the positions of existing SCEs and other devices. If yes, see Installing and Removing Main Server Components for details.
  5. Remove the riser blocks and front bezels from the positions where capacity expansion is to be performed.
    1. Use a screwdriver to pry up the spring on the riser block.
    2. Rotate the riser block and remove it. See Figure 8-3.

  6. Adjust the positions of guide rails and trays in the cabinet as required.
  7. Install adjustable guide rails in the positions where capacity expansion is to be performed and install floating nuts on the mounting bars of the cabinet. See Figure 8-3. To install an REE, install floating nuts in the four square holes above and below the 4U space. After the REE is installed in the cabinet, use captive screws on the mounting ears to secure the REE to the cabinet. For details, see Installing Components.
  8. Connect the cables. For details, see Installing Cables.
