Removing an SCM

Removing an SCM


Remove a system compute module (SCM) in any of the following scenarios:

  • The SCM has failed.
  • The CPU on the SCM has failed.
  • A DIMM is to be replaced.



No special conditions are required for this operation.


No data preparation is required for this operation.


  • ESD gloves
  • Packaging materials, for example, an ESD bag


  1. Power off the physical parition where the SCM is located. For details, see Powering Off the 9016.

    After the SCE is powered off, the power indicator of the SCE is steady yellow.

  2. Press the ejector release buttons on the SCM. The ejector levers eject automatically. See step (1) in Figure 6-31.
  3. Fully open the SCM ejector levers. See step (2) in Figure 6-31.
  4. Gently remove the SCM by holding its ejector levers. See step (3) in Figure 6-31.
  5. Remove the CPU from the SCM, and place the removed SCM and CPU in different ESD bags.


    Before placing the SCM in an ESD bag, ensure that a cover is installed on the vacant CPU socket. For details about how to install a cover, see Figure 6-31.
