Removing an NI Cable

Operation Scenario

Remove a node interconnect (NI) cable if it has failed or not properly connected.



You have determined the cabinet number and location of the server from which an NI cable is to be removed.

Before removing an NI cable, ensure that the service system is powered off to avoid equipment damage and personal injury due to an incorrect or loose connection.


No data preparation is required for this operation.


  • ESD gloves
  • Packaging materials, for example, an ESD bag


  1. Pinch the connector on the NI cable and gently push the connector inward. See step (1) in Figure 6-153.
  2. Hold the plastic ring-pull using your index finger, and push out the connector in the arrow direction. See step (2) in Figure 6-153.

  1. Place the removed NI cable in an ESD bag.

  1. After removing an NI cable, wait for 30 seconds before you power on the service system.
  2. Take proper measures to protect the connector of the removed NI cable to avoid deformation due to impact.
