Possible Causes

  • The ambient temperature is higher than 30°C (86°F).
  • The air intake vent is blocked.
  • The upper threshold for major alarms is not properly set for the sensor.

Procedure

  1. Check that the air conditioners in the equipment room are working properly. Reduce the ambient temperature for the server or move the server to a place at a lower temperature. Ensure that the ambient temperature is in the range of 10°C to 30°C (50°F to 86°F). Then check whether the alarm is cleared automatically.

    • If yes, no further action is required.
    • If no, go to Step 2.

  2. Check whether the air intake vent is blocked.

  3. Remove barriers from the air intake vent. Then check whether the alarm is cleared.

    • If yes, no further action is required.
    • If no, go to Step 4.

  4. Run the smmget -l bladeN -t sensorname -d thresholdall command on the CMC CLI, and check whether the upper threshold for major alarms is set properly.

    The proper threshold for the sensor is as follows:

    Inlet Temp: 44°C

    If the command output is as follows, the threshold is set properly:

    Upper Non-recoverable: 46.000 Celsius 
    Upper Critical       : 44.000 Celsius 
    Upper Non-critical : 42.000 Celsius 
    Lower Non-critical : Not supported.

    Lower Non-recoverable: Not supported.

  5. Run the smmset -l bladeN -t sensor -d uppercritical -v value command (value indicates the upper threshold for major alarms) on the CMC CLI to change the threshold. Then check whether the alarm is cleared.

    • If yes, no further action is required.
    • If no, go to Step 6.

  6. Check whether vacant slots exist. If yes, install filler panels or baffles. Then check whether the alarm is cleared.

    • If yes, no further action is required.
    • If no, go to Step 7.
