Example for Configuring IGMP Snooping

Example for Configuring IGMP Snooping

Networking Requirements

Figure 2-320 shows a multicast network. The Router runs IGMPv2 and connects to a user network through the Switch, a Layer 2 device. The multicast source (Source) sends multicast data to downstream receivers. IGMP snooping needs to be configured on the Switch to implement accurate multicast data forwarding on the Layer 2 network.

Procedure

  1. Create VLAN 10 on the Switch and add interfaces to this VLAN. For details, see Example for Configuring VLANs.
  2. Enable global IGMP snooping on the Switch.
    1. Choose Service Management > IGMP Snooping > Global IGMP Snooping in the navigation tree to display the Global IGMP Snooping page, as shown in Figure 2-321.

    2. Click Enable and click Apply to complete the configuration.
    3. Click in the navigation tree.
  3. Enable IGMP snooping in the VLAN on the Switch.
    1. Choose Service Management > IGMP Snooping > Configure IGMP Snooping in VLAN in the navigation tree to display the Configure IGMP Snooping in VLAN page, as shown in Figure 2-322.

    2. Select VLAN 10 and click Configure to display the Configure IGMP Snooping page, as shown in Figure 2-323.

    3. Set Enable IGMP Snooping to Enabled and retain the default settings for the other parameters.

If you modify other parameter settings, ensure that the parameter settings are consistent on the upstream and downstream devices. Otherwise, Layer 2 multicast forwarding entries may not be created, causing multicast data forwarding failures.

    4. Click OK to complete the configuration.
    5. Click in the navigation tree.
