Configuration Verification

This section uses the image file storage service as an example to explain how to verify that a newly created remote replication session works correctly in data replication, failover, and recovery.

Prerequisites

  • The network communication is normal between data center D and data center Y.
  • Initial synchronization has been complete.
  • Local authentication users have been created to access the source and destination directories, and IDs of these users are the same in the source and destination.
  • You have obtained the customer consent.
    Verifying the failover function interrupts ongoing services. Exercise caution when verifying this function.

Procedure

  1. Check the write protection of the secondary directory (destination directory).
    1. Log in to DeviceManager of the storage system in data center Y.
    2. Check the NFS share permission of directory /Bill and check whether the access permission of the online service system is read-only.

  2. Check data replication.
    1. Log in to an application server that runs the image file storage service in data center D and write file File A into directory /Bill.
    2. Log in to DeviceManager of the storage system in data center D, select Pair_01, and click Synchronize.
    3. After the synchronization is complete, log in to DeviceManager of the storage system in data center Y and check whether file File A is under directory /Bill.

      • If yes, data can be correctly replicated.
      • If no, data cannot be replicated. Troubleshoot the faults by following instructions in Data in a Remote Replication Pair Fails to Be Synchronized of the OceanStor 9000 Troubleshooting Guide.

  3. Check the failover function.

    This operation will interrupt ongoing services. Therefore, perform this operation during idle or off-peak hours after obtaining the customer consent. You are advised to stop ongoing services before performing this operation.

    1. Log in to DeviceManager of the storage system in data center D and export the share configuration file.

      For details, see Importing and Exporting the Configuration File of a Shared Directory.

    2. Confirm that the replication pair is in Normal state, select Pair_01 in DeviceManager of the storage system in data center D, and choose More > Split.

      The replication pair is split.

    3. Choose More > Disable Secondary Directory Write Protection.

      The secondary directory becomes read-write.

    4. Log in to DeviceManager of the storage system in data center Y and import the share configuration file.

      For details, see Importing and Exporting the Configuration File of a Shared Directory.

    5. Log in an application server that runs the image file storage service in data center Y and mount directory /Bill. Write file File B to directory /Bill and check whether the file can be written into the directory.

      • If yes, data center Y can take over for data center D. Go to 4.
      • If no, data center Y cannot take over for data center D. Contact technical support engineers.

  4. Check the failback function.
    1. Log in to DeviceManager of the storage system in data center D, select Pair_01, and choose More > Enable Secondary Directory Write Protection.

      The secondary directory becomes read-only.

    2. Log in to DeviceManager of the storage system in data center D, select Pair_01, and click Synchronize.
    3. After the synchronization is complete, log in to DeviceManager of the storage system in data center Y and check whether file File B is under directory /Bill.

      • If yes, data cannot be failed back. Contact technical support engineers.
      • If no, data can be failed back. Go to 5.

  5. Delete the test data from both data centers.
    1. Log in to the application server in 2.a and delete file File A from directory /Bill.
    2. Log in to DeviceManager of the storage system in data center D, select Pair_01, and click Synchronize.

      Backup file File A under secondary directory /Bill is deleted after the synchronization is complete.
