Application Planning

Application Planning

This section explains how a financial institution uses Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) backup to complete routine backup services in terms of network planning and service planning.

Network Planning

The NDMP backup feature of the OceanStor 9000 only supports the 3-way networking mode, as shown in Figure 13-12.

Figure 13-12  Backup network planning

After the network is built up, plan IP addresses and ensure that the backup server can communicate with the OceanStor 9000 and tape library. Table 13-8 provides an example that lists the planned IP addresses.

Table 13-8  IP address planning

IP Address

Subnet Mask

Cluster management IP address

Backup server IP address

Tape library IP address

To ensure that communication between devices is normal, configure route information based on actual network planning.

Service Planning

Based on the preceding backup requirement analysis, service planning specific to NDMP backup is provided. Backup software is NetBackup 7.0 here. To meet more service requirements using other features, see the OceanStor 9000 related documents to complete corresponding planning and configuration.

Table 13-9 illustrates the backup service planning of the financial institution.

Planning Item

Planned Value

Snapshot-based backup

Backup is complete based on snapshots. After backup, the snapshots can be deleted.

Write threshold

During data recovery, if write threshold is reached, recovery stops.

Backup directory

File directories that are backed up using the NDMP backup feature.

The value varies depending on site requirements, such as /Data.

Backup mode

Backup modes include full backup, differential incremental backup, and cumulative incremental backup. Backup data and backup time may vary depending on the backup mode you use.

  • Use full backup when initially enabling NDMP backup.
  • Use differential incremental backup for daily data backup.

Backup period

A backup period is self-definable. One backup task is automatically performed within one backup period.

The backup period of daily backup is 24 hours.
