This section describes the impact of the InfoStamper feature on system performance and interaction between the InfoStamper feature and other features.

Impact on System Performance

It is recommended that the number of snapshots created on the OceanStor 9000 does not exceed 4096. If fewer than 4096 snapshots are created, system performance decreases by less than 20%.

Interaction with Other Features

InfoStamper is a directory-level snapshot feature. Therefore, the joint use of InfoStamper and other features results in interaction and impact. Table 5-4 describes the interaction between InfoStamper and other features.

Table 5-4  Interaction between InfoStamper and other features

Interaction with InfoStamper

  • After a remote replication task starts, snapshots are periodically created based on the specified periodic snapshot policy.
  • Snapshots created for remote replication cannot be rolled back, modified, or deleted.
  • Snapshots cannot be created for the full path (including the parent directory and subdirectories) where the primary and secondary directories involved in remote replication reside.
  • Snapshot directories and directories for which snapshots are created cannot be configured as the primary and secondary directories in remote replication pairs.

Snapshot data does not migrate between storage tiers along with source files.

  • Quota statistics do not include snapshot data.
  • The quota settings of a directory are not protected by snapshots.

The Write Once Read Many (WORM) settings of a directory are not protected by snapshots.

  • InfoScanner is unable to scan a snapshot directory for virus in real time.
  • You are advised not to create snapshots for the scan directory. If a snapshot is created for a virus-infected scan directory, the snapshot is still infected with viruses after viruses are removed from the scan directory.
  • You are advised not to create snapshots for the isolation directory. If a snapshot is created for a virus-infected isolation directory, the snapshot is still infected with viruses after virus-infected files are deleted from the scan directory.

NDMP backup

InfoStamper does not support snapshot nesting. Therefore, when adopting snapshot-based backup, NDMP backup must meet at least one of the following conditions:

  • There is no nesting relationship between the directories used by InfoStamper and the directories by NDMP backup.
  • The backup window of InfoStamper does not conflict with that of NDMP, although there is nesting relationship between the snapshot directories created by InfoStamper and the directories for which NDMP backup is to be performed. The snapshots created by InfoStamper have been deleted when the snapshot-based NDMP backup task is started.

Application Restrictions

  • Snapshot nesting is not supported. If snapshots have been created for a directory, no snapshots can be created for the parent directory and subdirectories of the directory.
  • To delete a snapshot root directory, you need to delete the snapshot of the directory first.
  • Hard links cannot be created for files in snapshots.
  • Hard links are not protected by snapshots. Source files of hard links are protected by snapshots. The hard link in a snapshot root directory cannot be deleted, moved, or renamed. Source files that are protected by snapshots and have hard links cannot be deleted.
  • InfoMigrator cannot synchronize the snapshot directory (.snapshot) and snapshot files in the directory.
  • Creating a snapshot for the shared root directory is not supported.
