This section analyzes the requirements of a financial institution that uses Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) backup for data backup and comes to a conclusion.

Requirement Source

A financial institution uses the OceanStor 9000 to manage service data. The current services are as follows:

  • Amount of daily changed data: 50 MB to 100 MB
  • Total amount of data: ≤ 240 TB
  • Available bandwidth: 10 Mbit/s

The financial institution requires that data be not lost due to a system crash or misoperation, and can be recovered once the data is lost. The specific requirements are as follows:

  • Data backup

    The changed data is backed up every day without interrupting normal services, and a full backup can be performed periodically. If data is lost, the data can be recovered using the backup data.

  • Centralized data management

    As service amount grows, an increasing number of storage devices will be used to store management data. All data is expected to be backed up to the same place and be centrally managed, saving device cost and maintenance cost.

Other requirements include requirements for cost control and centralized data management.

The detailed analysis is as follows:

  • Amount of changed data

    The amount of changed data of this financial institution is small. Therefore, there is no need to perform a full backup every time.

  • System performance

    The financial institution hopes that backup services do not affect other services. Therefore, backup services need to be performed during off-peak hours and the amount of data to be backed up needs to be as small as possible. In this way, backup time window can be shortened.

  • Data availability

  • Perform backup tasks during off-peak hours, for example, 0:00 am to 6:00 am every day.
  • Connect the OceanStor 9000 to the backup server and tape libraries.
