Overview of AK/SK Authentication

Overview of AK/SK Authentication

AK(Access Key ID)/SK(Secret Access key) are a set of authentication certificate. The Object Storage Service uses the AK/SK authentication mode to authenticate requests.

Accounts and users use the AK and SK to access the system. The Object Storage Service authenticates account and user identities with the AK and SK.

  • One AK belongs to only one account or one user, but one account or one user can have a maximum of three AKs. The Object Storage Service identifies the accounts or users who access the system by their AKs.
  • Users generate authentication information according to an SK and the request header. SKs and AKs are in one-to-one match.

Figure 2-1 and Figure 2-2 describes the authentication process.

Figure 2-1  (User) Sending a Request
Figure 2-2  (OceanStor 9000) Authenticating the Request

Figure 2-1 describes the generation of signature based on SK and the request sent by user. Figure 2-2 describes that the system query the SK by AK in the received request, and then system calculates the signature through request and the queried SK. If the two signatures are the same, the authentication is successful.
