Object-based Services

Object-based Services

The Object Storage Service supports operations such as object creation, object deletion, multipart upload, and versioning operations and so on.

A series of basic object storage services can be provided based on objects. This section briefly describes the operations that can be performed. For details, see OceanStor 9000 Object Storage Service API Reference.

Basic Operations on Objects

In the Object Storage Service, operations can be performed on objects as follows:

  • Upload objects: Users can upload objects to a specified bucket with the PUT or POST method.
  • Copy objects: Users can create a duplicate of an object and copy the duplicate to another bucket.
  • Download objects: Users can download specified objects.
  • Query object metadata: Users can query metadata information about specified objects.
The metadata here refers to the data accessible by users instead of the internal metadata for system management. For example, the metadata customized by users during object uploading is used to identify and manage objects of the same type.
  • Delete objects: Users can delete specified objects or batch delete objects.
  • Set the ACL for objects: Set the ACL for specified objects.
  • Query the ACL of objects: Users can query the ACL of the specified objects.

Multi-segment Upload of Objects

The Object Storage Service supports object's multi-segment upload.

The maximum size of a single object for uploading is 5 GB. If an object is over 5 GB or needs to be uploaded for several times, it can be uploaded using multi-segment upload. All segments are uploaded and combined to one object that is no greater than 5 TB.

After a multi-segment upload task is created, the following operations are marked by task numbers and performed.

  • Upload segments: Uploads one segment or concurrently upload multiple segments.
  • Combine segments: After all segments are uploaded, the specified segments can be combined to one complete object.
  • Copy segments: Copies the part or whole of the uploaded objects and save them as segments of objects.
  • Query the uploaded segments: Query all the uploaded segments.
  • Cancel multi-segment uploading tasks: Users can cancel the created multi-segment uploading tasks.

Multi-Version Management of Objects

When the bucket versioning is enabled, objects in a bucket have the version attribute, and objects of different versions can be uploaded, queried, and deleted. The system saves object information of different versions during operation so users can query or delete objects of a specified version.

OPTIONS refers to pre-requests that are sent to servers by clients. Generally, the requests are used to check whether clients have permissions to perform operations on servers. Only after a pre-request is returned successfully, clients start to execute the follow-up requests.
