Paging Group

Paging Group

In an enterprise, multiple numbers can be added to a paging group. A user can use the specified number to dial the access code of a paging group to implement unidirectional voice broadcast to all members within the paging group.

NOTE:
  • The paging group function is not supported in the Wi-Fi environment.
  • Before using the paging group function, ensure that a paging group for your account has been configured on the server. For any questions, contact your system administrator.

By call type, a paging group can be classified into two types: unicast and multicast.

  • Unicast: The system uses conference resources to convene paging group members and complete unidirectional voice transmission. The number of recipients is restricted by conference resources.
  • Multicast: The system creates a virtual participant to join the conference, and uses the IP multicast function of the switch or router to implement broadcast.

Before using the multicast function, enable Multicast on the Call Settings > Multicast page of the phone web page.

NOTE:

You can receive only one unicast call but multiple (at most 10) multicast calls (from different paging groups) at a time.

Paging group takes precedence over local DND.

Placing a Paging Group Call

If you are the initiator in a paging group, after you dial the access code of the paging group, your phone automatically calls all recipients within the paging group. All these recipients will receive this call.

NOTE:

The phone supports only audio calls.

Receiving a Paging Group Call

  • If you are a recipient in a paging group, when a call destined for the paging group comes in, your phone automatically answers the call, and the Mute button is lit and displayed as . You can only listen to the voice of the calling party. You cannot talk to the calling party.
  • When two or more calls (in multicast mode) destined for the paging group come in, you can switch the paging broadcast using the multicast line buttons on the right side of the calling screen.
NOTE:
  • When two or more calls destined for the paging group come in, you can select to answer or temporarily ignore a call.
  • If the current phone has no common calls but receives a paging group call only, when you exit the calling screen, you can tap Keypad to return to the calling screen.
  • If you want to end a paging group call, use , , or . You cannot end a paging group call using the handset.
NOTE:
  • As a recipient in a paging group, you can only adjust the call volume or hang up. You cannot perform operations such as call forward and call transfer.
  • If you belong to multiple paging groups, you cannot receive any new paging group calls when you are the initiator in a paging group, but you can initiate a new paging broadcast when you are a recipient in a paging group.
  • A paging group call does not conflict with a common call. That is, when a paging group call comes in, you can still place or answer a common call.
  • When both a paging group call and a common call exist, you can hear the voice of the two calls at the same time.
