Function

The change initiator command is used to modify initiator attributes, including the CHAP status, initiator alias, and multipathing mode. This command can also be used to replace initiators.

initiator_type=?

Type of an initiator.

The value can be "iSCSI" or "FC", where:

  • "iSCSI": indicates Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) initiators.
  • "FC": indicates Fibre Channel initiators.

wwn=?

World Wide Name (WWN) of a Fibre Channel initiator.

To obtain the value, run "show initiator".

chap_enabled=?

Whether or not to enable the CHAP function for iSCSI initiators.

The value can be "yes" or "no", where:

  • "yes": CHAP authentication will be enabled.
  • "no": CHAP authentication will be disabled.

chap_target_user=?

CHAP user name for the initiator to authenticate the target. When "chap_enabled=?" is set to "yes", this parameter is optional.

The value contains 4 to 223 characters (32 < ASCII code < 127) and must start with a letter or a digit.

iscsi_iqn_name=?

iSCSI qualified name (IQN) of an iSCSI initiator.

To obtain the value, run "show initiator".

new_wwn=?

WWN of the Fibre Channel initiator after the update.

The value is a hexadecimal number that contains 16 characters including letters A to F and digits 0 to 9.

new_iscsi_iqn_name=?

IQN of the iSCSI initiator after the update.

The value contains 1 to 223 characters (32 < ASCII code < 127) and must start with a letter or a digit.

alias=?

Alias of an initiator.

The value contains 1 to 31 characters including digits, letters, underscores (_), periods (.), and hyphens (-).

chap_user=?

Name of a CHAP user. This parameter is required when chap_enabled=? is set to "yes".

The value contains 4 to 223 characters (32 < ASCII code < 127) and must start with a letter or a digit.

normal_chap_type=?

CHAP type during the iSCSI Normal phase. When "chap_enabled=?" is set to "yes", this parameter is optional.

The value can be:

  • "none".
  • "single".
  • "double".

discovery_chap_type=?

CHAP type during the iSCSI Discover phase. When "chap_enabled=?" is set to "yes", this parameter is optional.

The value can be:

  • "none".
  • "single".
  • "double".

multipath_type=?

Multipathing mode.

The value can be "default" or "third-party", where:

  • default: Huawei multipathing software is used.
  • third-party: Third-party multipathing software is used.

The default value is "default".

noop_in_interval=?

Interval of iSCSI targets sending keepalive packets to initiators.

The value can be "fast", "normal", "middle" or "slow".

failover_mode=?

Failover mode of the initiator after the update.

The value can be "old_alua", "common_alua", "no_alua", or "special_mode", where:

  • old_alua: ALUA of an earlier version.
  • common_alua: common ALUA.
  • no_alua: ALUA not used.
  • special_mode: special mode ALUA.

The default value is "common_alua".

path_type=?

Path type after the update.

The value can be "non-optimized" or "optimized", where:

  • optimized: optimized path.
  • non-optimized: non-optimized path.

The default value is "optimized".

special_mode_type=?

Special mode of an initiator.

The value can be "mode0", "mode1", "mode2", and "mode3", where:

  • mode0: special mode 0.
  • mode1: special mode 1.
  • mode2: special mode 2.
  • mode3: special mode 3.

vstore_id=?

ID of the vStore to which an initiator belongs.

The value ranges from 0 to 511.

force_change_vstore=?

Whether to forcibly change the vStore to which the initiator belongs.

The value can be "yes" or "no", where:

  • "yes": The initiator and host are associated, and the vStore ID can be changed.
  • "no": The initiator and host are associated, and the vStore ID cannot be changed.

Usage Guidelines

  • After CHAP authentication is enabled, a host can access the storage system using the corresponding initiator only when the host's CHAP user name and password match those of the storage system.
  • A new initiator will inherit all characteristics and mappings of the replaced initiator. For example, if an initiator has been allocated to a mapping view and added to a specific host, the new initiator will be allocated to the same mapping view and also be added to the host.
  • If "chap_enabled=?" is set to "yes", the system will prompt you to enter CHAP passwords in interaction mode after running this command. The passwords must meet the following requirements:
    • Each password is case sensitive and contains 12 to 16 characters.
    • Each password must be a combination of at least three of the following items:
  • Lowercase letters
  • Uppercase letters
  • Digits
  • Special characters including ` ~ ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) - _ = + \ | [ { } ] ; : ' " , < . > / ?
    • Each password must be different from the user name and mirror writing of the user name.
  • The "chap_enable=yes,discovery_chap_type=none,normal_chap_type=none" command cannot be executed.
  • If only unidirectional authentication is enabled, the execution of the command with "chap_target_user" (user name for bidirectional authentication) will fail.
  • If the "discovery_chap_type=none,normal_chap_type=none" command contains "chap_target_user/chap_user", the execution of the command will fail.
  • The failover mode and path type only take effect when the multipathing mode is "Third-party".
  • Parameters of "multipath_type", "failover_mode", "path_type", and "special_mode_type" must be set based on the multipathing type and host operating system version.
