This document is applicable to OceanStor 2800 V3. This document describes the procedure for replacing the parts of the storage system in terms of safety operations, preparations, and precautions.

Replacing a Power Module

This section describes how to replace a power module.

Impact on the System

System reliability is compromised during power module replacement.


  • A spare part is on hand.
  • The power module that you want to replace has been located.

You can locate a component in either of the following ways:

  • Log in to DeviceManager and go to the System page. On the System page, check the device view and locate the position of the component to be replaced. If the component has a Location indicator, turn on the indicator. (For details about how to turn on a Location indicator, see the online help of DeviceManager.)
  • Use the Alarm indicator of the component to locate its position.


  • Do not touch the connectors of a power module and power cable.
  • Remove and insert a power module with even force. Excessive force may damage the appearance or connectors.
  • Remove only one power module at a time.
  • Shorten the duration of replacing a power module where possible.

Tools and Materials

  • ESD wrist strap
  • ESD bag
  • Labels


  1. Perform a pre-replacement check.

    Check whether there is a redundant power module and whether the Running/Alarm indicator of the redundant power module is steady green, as shown in Figure 5-47. For details about the indicators on different components, see Running/Alarm Indicators on a High-Density Disk Enclosure.

    You can perform replacement only when a redundant power module exists and the redundant power module is working properly.

  2. Wear an ESD wrist strap.
  3. Pull the spring pin upward, and press the adjustable guide rails of the cable manager to open the cable manager, as shown in Figure 5-48.

  4. Remove the power cable from the power module that you want to replace.

    1. Loosen the retention clip, as shown in step 1 in Figure 5-49.

    1. Pull up the retention clip, as shown in a of step 2 in Figure 5-49.
    2. Remove the AC power cable, as shown in b of step 2 in Figure 5-49.

  5. Press the latch on the power module and pull out the power module, as shown in Figure 5-50.

  6. Put the removed power module into an ESD bag.
  7. Take the spare part out of its ESD bag.
  8. Insert the spare part into the slot until it clicks into place, as shown in Figure 5-51.

  9. Connect the power cable and fix the buckle of the power socket to the power cable.

    1. Press the locker of the retention clip outwards (as shown in a of step 1 in Figure 5-52), and meanwhile slide the retention clip to the connection part of the AC power cable (as shown in b of step 1 in Figure 5-52).

    1. Loosen the retention clip, as shown in step 2 in Figure 5-52.
    2. Press the retention clip inwards to secure the connection part of the AC power cable, as shown in step 3 in Figure 5-52.

    Adjust the retention clip to ensure that it holds the AC power cable tightly.

  10. Wait approximately two minutes and view the Running indicator of the power module to determine whether the power module has been successfully installed. Figure 5-53 shows the location of the Running indicator on a power module.

    • If the indicator is steady green, the power module has been successfully installed.
    • If the indicator is off, the newly installed power module is faulty, the slot for the power module is faulty, or the power module is incorrectly installed.

  11. Confirm the replacement.

    After the preceding procedure is complete, check services on the host for storage-related errors. If any storage-related error is reported, contact Huawei technical support.

Follow-up Procedure

After the power module is replaced, label it to facilitate subsequent operations.
